National History Day in North Dakota

What is it? The National History Day in North Dakota program is open to all students grades 6-12. It integrates with an interdisciplinary, standards-based curriculum and provides students with a variety of choices in topic and presentation. Through a project-based learning method that emphasizes reading, critical thinking, research, analysis, and the drawing of meaningful conclusions, students learn what it means to think like a historian.

The contests are an optional commitment that allows students to showcase their work, receive feedback, and possibly advance to the next level of competition. Students should begin with regional contest from which they may be promoted to the state contest. From the state contest students may be promoted to the national contest.

Each year the contest will be a little different based on the project categories that students enter.

You can expect in general the following from each regional contest.

- Student check-in
- Student welcome ceremony
- Judging, this may take place over several hours in multiple rooms
- Award Ceremony
